When the PGA Tour swung through Honolulu with the SONY Open, a very bizarre story on tour pro Robert Allenby was reported by the Golf Channel. The initial story told of an alleged criminal incident detailing Allenby's apparent kidnapping. It also noted his interaction with the Honolulu authorities to investigate the incident. As the details began to surface, including Allenby's public photo depicting his faced bruised and cut, media scrutiny increased and apparent witnesses told their versions of the story. Allenby missed the cut at SONY and sat out last week's event at LaQuinta.
Now active again, at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, Allenby met with the media and criticized the so-called negative coverage of the incident.
